چکیده

Requests for higher data transmissions rates and systems performances in multiuser radio communications, needed for the future mobile generations or wireless local area networks, centered them in the focus of interest of investigations in signal processing area. When transmitting over mobile channel, two principal channel’s aspects have to be considered; its frequency selectivity and time dispersion. A modulation technique that can provide means for overcoming or at least minimizing those problems is Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM). It converts frequency selective channel in a set of channels that experience flat fading. This is accomplished dividing whole channel’s bandwidth into a set of narrowband channels. Furthermore, carriers frequency of each channel are chosen the way that signals transmitted on them are orthogonal and with overlapping spectrum. This increases the system efficiency enabling more dense subcarriers frequencies selection. On the other hand, channels’ time dispersion causes signal spreading providing InterSymbol Interference (ISI) in the receiver. This channel aspect can be overcame if time redundancy between consecutive symbols is equal or greater than channel’s dispersion. Two kinds of redundancy are usual in OFDM: Cyclic Prefix (CP) and Zero Padding (ZP). First one leads directly to the multiplicative channel in frequency domain and simplified receivers, while the second one guarantees the channel invertibility but requires more sophisticated receivers[1, 2]. These approaches to the channel dispersion problem do eliminate ISI, but the cost is the reduction of the system transmission rate. When multiuser communications are considered, each user must have a signature uniquely associated with him in order to be separable from the rest of the users. Multiuser systems based on the combination of OFDM and Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) principles are a challenging issue for researchers at the present. In these systems, mod-

Bandwidth-constrained signature waveforms and Walsh signal space receivers for synchronous CDMA systems

Synchronous CDMA systems whose transmission bandwidth is quantified through the fractional out-of-band energy (FOBE) constraint are considered. Either a conventional matched filter (MF) receiver or a minimum mean-square error (MMSE) receiver is employed for users’ data detection. The total squared correlation (TSC) and the total mean-square error (TMSE) are proposed as the performance parameter...

Time-Variant Channel Equalization via Discrete Prolate Spheroidal Sequences

In this work we present an equalization scheme for a multi-carrier (MC) code division multiple access (CDMA) communication system that is operated in a frequency-selective time-variant (TV) channel. For block oriented data transmission we are interested to describe the TV channel for the duration of a data block with the smallest amount of parameters possible. Slepian showed that time-limited p...

Multi-Carrier DS-CDMA Using Frequency Spread Coding

In this paper, a type of multi-carrier direct sequence code division multiple access (MC-DS-CDMA) system which uses frequency spread coding is proposed and investigated for the down-link. An MC-DS-CDMA system is a combined system of CDMA and multi-carrier modulation. This system is often categorized as a “serial to parallel (S/P) type” system because serial to parallel converted data symbols ar...

MIMO Radar Space-Time Adaptive Processing Using Prolate Spheroidal Wave Functions

In the traditional transmitting beamforming radar system, the transmitting antennas send coherent waveforms which form a highly focused beam. In the multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) radar system, the transmitter sends noncoherent (possibly orthogonal) broad (possibly omnidirectional) waveforms. These waveforms can be extracted at the receiver by a matched filterbank. The extracted signals c...

DS-CDMA chip waveform design for minimal interference under bandwidth, phase, and envelope constraints

This paper investigates the effect of chip waveform shaping on the error performance, bandwidth confinement, phase continuity, and envelope uniformity in direct-sequence codedivision multiple-access communication systems employing offset quadrature modulation formats. An optimal design methodology is developed for the problem of minimizing the multipleaccess interference power under various des...
